Carolyn Aberman is a former practicing attorney and a Sector Leader in Korn Ferry’s Chicago office where she manages a team and works with corporations and law firms on their most critical legal and executive hiring needs. Carolyn is a key member of Korn Ferry’s Legal Center of Expertise.

Carolyn joined Korn Ferry after working as a Managing Director and Managing Partner for over a decade with  top Chicago-based Legal Recruiting firms.  In those roles, Carolyn worked extensively with law firm and corporate  clients across a wide range of industries including Consumer Products, Construction, Hospitality, Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals, Technology and  Real Estate, among others

Prior to recruiting, Carolyn spent fourteen (14) years as a practicing attorney.  Her experience includes working  for a prestigious boutique labor and employment law firm as well as working as an Associate for over seven (7) years at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

She also worked as Associate General Counsel for Brunswick Corporation, a publicly-traded global company with sales during her tenure of more than $4.1 billion.

Carolyn also has experience in the not-for-profit world, having worked as a Staff Attorney and then Executive Director of First Defense Legal Aid, after which she spent 10 years as an Executive Board Member.

Carolyn works with corporations, not-for-profits and publicly and privately-held corporations to place high-level legal and executive talent in a wide range of positions.  Her engagements include leading searches for General Counsels and Chief Legal Officers, Deputy General Counsels, Associate/Assistant General Counsels, Senior Counsels and Executive Directors/Directors as well as Partners in law firms.  Carolyn’s experience of working in public interest, in a small law firm, a top AmLaw firm and in-house, allows her to offer her clients and candidates unique insight to help make matches that lead to long-term success.

Carolyn is a thought leader, writing articles and white papers on topics critical to improving representation in the legal profession.  Most importantly, she understands the importance of each hire to her clients’ business and serves as a partner both before, during and after the search process. 

Carolyn holds a B.A. in International Relations, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law.  She is also a member of the Leadership Council for the American Cancer Society Chicago Taste of Hope and the Korn Ferry Cares Chicago Committee, in addition to other philanthropic endeavors.
