Spencer Shih

Practice: Military
Location: Denver, CO

A Navy veteran who has transitioned to the civilian sector himself, Spencer Shih knows all too well the challenges that can come from finding an ideal career outside of the military. He uses his experience and empathy to expertly pair high-caliber military talent with leading employers nationwide, creating mutually-beneficial partnerships.

Spencer came to Lucas Group in 2018 as an Executive Search Consultant in the Military Practice group, working with top-tier military candidates in search of well-suited civilian positions. In his role, Spencer enjoys helping military members navigate the exciting, yet sometimes scary, time of transitioning to Corporate America and seeing first-hand the impact he is able to make when his candidates land the most sought-after positions.

Spencer’s passion for recruiting began while volunteering for the Navy Recruiting District in Phoenix, while assigned to Arizona State as a full-time graduate student. He attended career fairs and gave briefs about the Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate program on campus at Arizona State. He also met one-on-one with those already under Officer Candidate School contracts as well as undergrads who were interested in Navy Officer programs. While recruiting is something Spencer has done on a volunteer basis in the past, his role at Lucas Group allows him to do military recruiting as a rewarding, full-time career.

Prior to Lucas Group, Spencer spent more than 10 years in the U.S. Navy as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer and later spent more than three years in partner marketing and E-commerce at Sling TV. His experience as both a jobseeker as well as a military veteran set him apart and allow him to understand the job market while also being able to draw on his extensive personal experience of interviewing with Fortune 500 companies across multiple industries to better prep military candidates who are often experiencing their first job interview.

Spencer spends his free time doing CrossFit, snowboarding, hiking, reading and dressing up as Spiderman as a volunteer with the Superhealers of Colorado. He holds an M.B.A from Cornell University, an M.S.E in Civil Engineering from Arizona State University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University.
