Aim To Be Compelling: Inspire Others With Your Energy And Vision

Why do you get out of bed in the morning? What is your purpose?

Compelling people not only know the answer to those questions, they live the answer to those questions.

They inspire others with their energy and vision.
The compelling people I know stand out with their ability to captivate others and urge them to action. They are dynamic and have a sense of purpose, and they can clearly articulate their vision. Compelling people are engaging storytellers who paint an appealing picture for their clients and colleagues. They have a gift to get others to listen to them and come up with a solution. When you meet a compelling person, the feeling you have is “I want to know more.”

They speak with conviction.
Compelling people speak with conviction and know how to address something head on. They describe their message in a way that is easily absorbed by those ready to move forward. We trust them because they share their inner strength generously and embody faith and commitment to their message.

They build relationships by earning respect.
Compelling people treat every day as an opportunity to be gracious; they earn people’s respect through small actions of connection. They move forward in a humble and inclusive way.

They inspire others through empathy.
You know when you meet a compelling person because she explores what you care about and speaks to what you need. She shares with you rather than merely telling you, and by doing so, draws your interest and motivates you to get involved into the mission. By practicing empathy, a compelling person delivers what people need.

Compelling People Lead with Their Purpose

What has always made Apple and its technologies fascinating?

It embodies founder Steve Jobs’ reason for being: “Everything we do challenges the status quo.”

Leadership consultant and bestselling author Simon Sinek explains that people and companies like Jobs and Apple are compelling because they have a guiding purpose that drives everything they do. In his book Start with the Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action, Sinek shares these insights:

  • Most people and companies focus on what they do instead of why they do it. Standout people and companies focus on why they do what they do.
  • Customers don’t buy what you do. They buy why you do it. When you meet with people, lead with your purpose.
  • Inspired people and organizations think, act and lead from the inside out.
